Sinossi:

Ele ha 19 anni e sta per affrontare l’esame di maturità, ma riesce a pensare solo al vecchio camper del padre defunto, abbandonato in garage da quando lui non c’è più. Ora sua madre vuole darlo via, e lei non può accettarlo. Mia, invece, ha 21 anni, e fa le pulizie nella scuola che frequenta Ele. Mia ed Ele si incontrano per caso e diventano complici; quando Ele si ritrova a scappare con il camper, ci trova nascosta Mia. Andrea Zuliani nasce a Roma nel 1983. Durante gli studi al DAMS di Tor Vergata, inizia a lavorare come videomaker e conduce laboratori di cinema per bambini e ragazzi per la D.O.C. cooperativa (Torino). Dal 2008 è primo/secondo assistente alla regia di numerosi film e serie, tra cui: “Shadow” di F. Zampaglione, “Cosimo & Nicole” di F. Amato, “Gomorra – serie tv 2a e 3a stagione” di C. Cupellini e F. Comencini, “Il più grande sogno” di M. Vannucci, “L’amico geniale” di S. Costanzo, “18 regali” di F. Amato. Ha diretto i cortometraggi “Miriam” (2012) e “Per Anna” (2015 – selezionato in 38 festival internazionali, vincitore di 11 premi e nominato come miglior cortometraggio al David di Donatello 2016). Insieme a Francesca Scanu ha scritto le sceneggiature “Non vedo non sento non parlare” (finalista al Premio Solinas Experimenta, Menzione Speciale al Premio Mattador), “Le ragazze non piangono” (vincitore del bando produzione Mibac 2018), “Limbo” (finalista a Pitch in the day 2016), “Lontano dal sole” (finalista al Murmat Speed ​​Pitch 2021).

Synopsis:

Ele is 19 years old and is about to take his high school exam, but all he can think about is his deceased father’s old camper, abandoned in the garage since he has been gone. Now his mother wants to give him away, and she can’t accept it. Mia, on the other hand, is 21 years old, and cleans at the school Ele attends. Mia and Ele meet by chance and become accomplices; when Ele finds himself running away with the camper, he finds Mia hiding there. The escape of the two girls turns into a journey that will change them profoundly. Andrea Zuliani was born in Rome in 1983. During his studies at the DAMS in Tor Vergata, he began working as a videomaker and conducted cinema workshops for children and teenagers for the D.O.C. cooperative (Turin). Stanley Kolk, NCE è nato l’8 marzo 1971 ad Amsterdam, nei Paesi Bassi. Da giovanissimo Stanley Kolk (1971) capì che non voleva essere un pompiere o un astronauta, ma che voleva lavorare nell’industria cinematografica. In gioventù divorava molti film e al liceo otteneva spesso l’autorizzazione perché i suoi insegnanti potevano vedere che imparava di più al cinema che nelle loro classi. Ha seguito la sua strada per l’Accademia olandese di cinema e televisione dove nel 1996 si è laureato in editing e produzione. Egli è meglio conosciuto per il suo lavoro di editing sulla serie televisiva in corso Penoza, Daglicht (2013) e Vuurzee (2005 & 2008).

Stanley Kolk, NCE was born on March 8, 1971 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. At a very young age Stanley Kolk (1971) understood that he didn’t want to be a firefighter or an astronaut, but that he wanted to work in the film industry. In his youth he devoured many films, and in high school he often got permission because his teachers could see that he learned more at the movies than in their classes. He followed his path to the Dutch Academy of Film and Television where in 1996 he graduated in editing and production. Perché è la loro vita – non la nostra. Perché accade fuori – non a casa nostra.
“Nono piano a destra” vuole raccontare quello che succede troppo raramente: l’incontro fra tre uomini appartenenti a tre classi sociali ben distinte, ognuno di loro che porta i segni evidenti e non consapevoli di queste differenze. Le loro proiezioni e i loro pregiudizi, i loro desideri sessuali, i loro bisogni specifici, si incontrano e si scontrano. Ognuno porta il proprio senso di colpa sociale e ognuno cerca di rispondere ai propri bisogni. Gli impulsi, i rapporti di forza o dominazione e le aspirazioni individuali si confrontano e creano il conflitto fra i personaggi, rendendo la triangolazione profondamente instabile.

Their projections and prejudices, their sexual desires, their specific needs, meet and clash. Everyone carries their own sense of social guilt and everyone tries to respond to their own needs. Impulses, relationships of strength or domination and individual aspirations confront each other and create conflict between the characters, making the triangulation profoundly unstable.

Maite Bonilla received a 2021 Inwood Art Works Fellowship for her screenplay “I Am Poem.” She is also an award-winning actress and nominated by several prestigious Latin awards such as ACE, HOLA, LATA and ATI for her role as “Ramona” from the novel “En el nombre de Salomé” by Julia Alvarez (In the name of Salome) at Repertorio Espanol. Per scrivere questa storia, ho parlato con decine di persone come me e imparato a conoscere le loro esperienze. Uno sviluppatore di software di Mosca che deve nascondere il suo partner per quasi un decennio nel bagno del loro appartamento in studio ogni volta che videochiama la sua famiglia nella sua città natale in Siberia. Un ballerino che ha fatto un tour con la sua compagnia di danza per anni prima di chiedere asilo negli Stati Uniti in modo da poter smettere di nascondere la sua identità. Aleksei Borovikov è un pluripremiato regista indipendente, giornalista e attivista LGBTQ. Ha iniziato la sua carriera lavorando nella televisione regionale e nazionale in Russia per oltre 15 anni. To write this story, I talked to dozens of people like me and learned about their experiences. A software developer from Moscow who has to hide his partner for almost a decade in the bathroom of their studio apartment every time he video calls his family in his hometown in Siberia. A dancer who toured with his dance company for years before seeking asylum in the United States so he could stop hiding his identity. A couple who lived in Kiev and traveled to Denmark to get married as a way to recognize their love and commitment to each other. Living in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, many people interviewed had experienced homophobia and stigmatization and had to remain closeted due to cultural traditions and beliefs. The main character of “Brother”, Tony, takes inspiration from these stories.
The grand lie surrounding life in post-Soviet countries today, more than ever, requires discussing taboo topics. We hope that “Brother” can help begin that change for LGBTQ+ individuals who have left Eastern Europe and those who remain in their home countries. The film uses the setting of a gay wedding to reflect the frustration and self-control found throughout the community. It also serves as a healing tale that suggests ways of mutual support and emotional growth.

Aleksei Borovikov is an award-winning independent filmmaker, journalist and LGBTQ activist. He began his career working in regional and national television in Russia for over 15 years. In 2016, Aleksei graduated from the Moscow Film School. Before coming to the United States, Aleksei volunteered for a Moscow-based NGO focused on HIV prevention and helped it raise a $1 million grant from the Elton John AIDS Foundation. In 2022, Aleksei graduated from Columbia College Chicago with an MFA in Film Directing. Di Zaragoza, ho studiato assistenza sociale, studi che ho ripreso a Madrid arrivando a laurearmi. Sieropositivo da quando ho 27 anni, sono arrivato alla capitale con voglia di incominciare da zero stanco degli abusi e il bullismo delle persone e combattere per i diritti LGBTQI+.
Di sinistra, repubblicano e amante delle politica, riconosco che a volte mi fa impazzire però “l’informazione è potente” e preferisco non vivere nell’ignoranza. Ho deciso di iniziare questa trilogia per osservare da fuori, informarmi e misurarmi nel mondo del sesso.
Al mio arrivo, sono stato volontario in diverse associazioni come FAD (Fundación de ayuda contra la tossicodipendenza) e immagina quanto lavoro e lotta per i diritti LGBTQI+ e concretamente contro lo stigma di cui soffriamo noi persone con l’HIV. Aiutando le persone che hanno ricevuto diagnosi a non impegnarsi da sole, come mi è successo e ho fatto delle conferenze nei college.
L’ultimo anno è stato a Más Madrid nel distretto di Arganzuela o La Arganzuela e ho continuato a collaborare a due progetti insieme a Mabel Lozano (direttrice del cinema e attivista contro la tratta).
Mi identifico sempre con una frase, una grande frase:
“Quello di cui non si parla, non esiste”.

From Zaragoza, I studied social assistance, studies which I resumed in Madrid and graduated. HIV positive since I was 27 years old, I arrived in the capital with the desire to start from scratch tired of the abuse and bullying of people and fight for LGBTQI+ rights.
Left-wing, Republican and lover of politics, I recognize that sometimes it drives me crazy but “information is powerful” and I prefer not to live in ignorance. I decided to start this trilogy to observe from the outside, inform myself and measure myself in the world of sex.
Upon my arrival, I was a volunteer in various associations such as FAD (Fundación de ayuda contra la drug addiction) and imagine how much I work and fight for LGBTQI+ rights and concretely against the stigma that we people with HIV suffer from. Helping people who have received diagnoses not to commit alone, as has happened to me and I have given conferences in colleges.
My senior year was in Más Madrid in the district of Arganzuela or La Arganzuela and I continued to collaborate on two projects together with Mabel Lozano (cinema director and anti-trafficking activist).
I always identify with a phrase, a great phrase:
“What we don’t talk about doesn’t exist”.
